Weekly Photo Challenge: Solitary

Trueman “Ben” Howard 1944-5 France, Solitary

Another picture from my fathers World War II collection. Here we see “Ben” Howard taking some time to himself to write.

  1. I love old photos! Thanks for sharing!

  2. he looks so peaceful in that pic, but it’s hard imagine it would have been.

    • The place this fall in the timeline it would have been in the thick of the fighting so I don’t think it would have been all that peaceful. You can’t tell though he has such a peaceful look on his face. Maybe it was peaceful in his mind.

      • maybe that’s it peaceful in his mind or just in that moment.

  3. This photograph speaks to me … so glad you posted it.

  4. Awesome.

  5. Ben seems to be at peace, writing a poem or something… Love the photo. 😀

  6. Handsome man. He looks like he could be Hemingway’s best friend.

  7. Wow, this is so cool! I love black and white pictures!

  8. What a handsome man, and an endearing photo!

    • It is one of my favorite’s although I do not know anything about the man other than his name.

  9. Thank you for your “Like” on my blog about my father in the Pacific War. Yours is fantastic, I’ll be back to follow up on your posts.

  10. Nice looking fella, probably writing a letter to a sweetheart.

    • That is what I think! A letter to his sweetheart!

  11. A fabulous example of a serviceman at rest. Such a contrast to his job. I love these sorts of photos.
