Weekly Photo Challenge:Big #2

Robert Winter standing in a BIG Bomb Crater

Another picture from my father’s World War II photo album. This is only one of the pictures showing how much damage a bomb makes.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the latest chapter featuring the love letters my father wrote to my mom during this time.

  1. Impressive crater. I mostly like your ‘hook’ into the next post with a promise of romance!

  2. That was one big round… You see similar craters on the hills above Omaha and Pointe-du-Hoc – even after 70 years. May be a 2,000 pounder.

    • The pictures I have show a lot more bomb craters, this is one of the smaller ones.

  3. Wow, it looks huge!!

    • AND it is one of the smaller one I have pictures of.

  4. Whew, I never realized that there were huge craters like this after land was bombed. Great photo!

    • I did not know until I viewed these photo’s. I have others but am trying to save them to see if Dad talks about them in his letters.

  5. All right then – I feel we must be kindred spirits… my father was in the 517th PRCT – I would love to talk more with you about all of this…. Thanks for sharing and checking out my sight as well.

  6. Staggering. I can’t even go there. The horror that must have been for families who had to flee..the fear, Ohh I hope we will never see it again.
