John A. Keller eating what looks like a big fortune cookie. I know that isn’t but can anyone tell me what it is??? This is another picture from my father’s WWII photo album taken overseas 1944-5

Wow! My relatives on the Keller side come from Nebraska and Iowa!! I’ll check with dad. Wouldn’t that be amazing?!

That would be amazing! I am trying to get in touch with as many families of the men my dad served with as I can. I can’t wait to hear! This John Keller served with the 110th Quartermaster which eventually became the 35th QM and was attached to the 35th Infantry division when they went overseas.

It’s probably the signature shaped loaf from one of the local bakeries – they produce some incredible shapes here!

That is what I believe it is! Interesting I have two pictures of it with different men. They sure did get a kick out of it!

My guess? It isn’t food… Rather, a (ahem) butt rest for those with sore bottoms or those with the Big H? Old Man Jack used to talk about “doughnuts” and irritated (ahem) butts… Perhaps this was in a rear area (no pun intended) but I doubt any local person could spare flour for this purpose… Just my thoughts!

hahaha I for some reason am under the impression it was some kind of bread. I may be wrong though. I hope Dad’s letters may give us some insight.

I wonder if it is a fortune cookie prop of some sort–not real, but a great photo prop? It made a good conversation piece! 🙂

It will be interesting to see if Dad actually will talk about it in one of his letters.

At first I thought some kind of sausage or wurst but it does look like a bread as I take a closer look. There is a type of bread that is rolled and made into a circle, but I can’t say I have seen one that large before. Either way he looks like he is enjoying it.
