Weekly Photo Challenge: Green #3

I loved how “green” this part of New Jersey is, Near Trenton

This is near Washington’s Crossing in New Jersey. It was a beautiful park with a bit of history.

General George Washington and men of the Continental Army and militia crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night 1776 and marched to Trenton, New Jersey.

There they attacked and defeated Hessian troops quartered in and around the village.

This surprise attack and victory set the stage for Washington’s subsequent victories at the Second Battle of Trenton and Princeton.

  1. It is beautiful now… I cannot imagine young men fighting amongst those trees. I’m sure a few of them may have been around from that time…?

  2. I think I saw Washington’s footprints going across the road, no?
    Nice pic.

  3. That’s an interesting bit of history. Seems you can’t swing a stick without bumping into history in America. Just saw Lincoln yesterday. Really interesting. The battle scenes were gruesome though, man to man/hand to hand…my gosh.

  4. Lovely photo, we lived in Trenton for a few years when I was younger and you are right it is very pretty in NJ, it truly is the Garden State, you just need to know where to look. NJ is full of interesting history – plenty from the Revolution War.

    • After living on the west coast all my life it was amazing to see how much old history there is on the East Coast. It was everywhere! I loved it and love learning from it!

      • American history is fascinating. I enjoy hearing about the settlers who moved out west and am sure you have plenty of history on the west coast as well. If not history then definitely beautiful scenery!

      • We do have great scenery!

  5. Cool piece of history to go with the color green! 🙂
