Orphaned Hummingbird baby gets new home

This is one of the most amazing clips I have ever seen. I watch a hummingbird nest webcam and have for a couple of years now. This season the mama, named Phoebe laid two eggs and one did not hatch. The one babe, named Fleur hatched on March 1st. The keepers of the webcam removed the non-viable egg yesterday. Today much to my surprise I had a post on my Facebook page that showed Fleur and Pip. A hummingbird rehabilitator had gotten together with the webcam keeper and they had a orphan baby just about the same age as Fleur in need of a home. A long story short here is a clip of them placing the orphan, Pip into the nest and Phoebe’s first encounter with Pip.  It brought tears to my eye.

  1. Thats awesome Nancy, thanks for sharing. She’s so beautiful

    • It was amazing to see it. I was sad that the other egg did not hatch, but I guess things happen for a reason. If it had Pip would not have been able to be adopted!

  2. How wonderful! Do hope the littler one gets a look in now 😉

    • So far so good. She is feeding both! Awesome!

  3. Now if we could just care for others that we first encounter in the same manner.

  4. How amazing!! Thanks for posting!

  5. God, what tiny little things!! Great video!

    • Thanks…Both babies lived to be fledglings and flew away just a couple days ago.
