Weekly Photo Challenge: Fresh

Very Fresh

Very Fresh

We found these nestled in the rose bush outside the front door. They are mockingbird eggs and this is the second batch she has laid this year. In the first clutch she had three babies. Two disappeared two different days and the last we believe lived and is hanging around. We were going to take the nest down before she laid more but it seems we are too late.

I am taking this picture from the front door. The gate leads to the really big (bigger than my house) garage. If you turn left before that gate it leads to our garden. The nest is located three quarters of the way up on the right. It is well hidden and we may not have known about it if the first babies did not raise a ruckus. I would have to say that this really fits this weeks Weekly Challenge: Fresh.

  1. It would have been nice to have watched the chickies hatch from the eggs.

    • I know, right? Their next is so well hidden in the rose bush you can’t see it without moving all the branches. I will keep my eye on them maybe we can get a pict when they hatch.

  2. That is a beautiful trellis!

    • Thank you! It is nice having my eye diverted from the really big garage! lol

  3. Love the photos! We had a bird nest in a hanging plant on our front porch every spring. It was fun to watch. What a lovely trellis!

    • Thank you if you look out my front door it is almost like I don’t live in the desert! hahahaha but then I love the desert!

  4. What a beautiful little nest and very lovely eggs. I know it’s hard when the little birds don’t make it, but I’d be tempted to keep the spot as theirs…and look forward to the return. I hope these babies do better. 🙂

    • They hatched yesterday I am getting ready to post a picture but it is not great. I will keep readers updated though.

  5. Next to my boat a duck laid 13 eggs … she’d sitting on them now.
